Welcome to Wirral Shotokan situated on the left bank of the river Mersey. Whenever you are in or near Wirral drop in and train with us, you will be most welcome. We practice traditional JKA style shotokan.
The Sensei is Mr Frank Cope, 7th Dan Chief Instructor of The British Martial Arts Association.
Sensei Cope learnt his art from the world famous Enoeda and Kanazawa Sensei’s and was one of the first students of the famous Red Triangle Club in Liverpool.
Sensei Cope started his karate training in 1960 after trying Judo and Jiu Jitsu. Sensei Cope was asked to start a club on the Wirral by Enoeda Sensei and so in 1964 the first Wirral Shotokan was started in Birkenhead.
We are a friendly club and a few of the members have been with the club for over 25years. We have organised trips and gone as a group to various karate tournaments and seminars in Europe including Paris , Madrid and Barcelona.
